Acupuncture has been in existence for a few thousand years and is considered one of the earliest forms of natural medicine. In modern times we can quickly see if there is any scientific evidence for a healing modality on www.Pubmed.gov , the research site for the National Institute of Health (NIH) and US National Library of Medicine. A quick search of the term acupuncture pulls up a result of 27,860 published citations. Acupuncture is NOT a woo woo mystic display of witchcraft but a full-fledged researched therapy study by scientists worldwide for its medicinal qualities. In fact, according to a recent survey over 3.5 million Americans have tried acupuncture in the past 12 months. At Whole Family Healthcare , our team of trained Acupuncture Physicians have a combined 50 years of experience. We commonly use acupuncture for pain relief, headaches, digestive support, insomnia, fatigue, hormone balancing , mood disorders, skin rashes, and the biggest contributor to most of diseases today…STRESS!
If you are new to the idea of acupuncture I can walk you through a typical initial visit. We ask our patients what brings them in and try to identify the root cause for their symptoms. We then do an assessment of tongue and pulse to give us further clues on how to best support the patient. Once we complete the intake patients relax on a heated table with music of their choosing. We then insert 8-20 needles to specifically support the body and to improve overall circulation which brings balance and a sense of well-being to the patient. The needles need to stay in for 10-40 minutes depending on what the patient is coming in for. Most patients doze off and feel completely refreshed after their visit. The beneficial effects can continue for another 48-72 hours later. The process is repeated depending on the condition until we have a resolution of symptoms at a frequency of 1-3 times/week. We then discuss a maintenance plan to ensure long term results.
Even when addressing other medical conditions most patients greatly appreciate the added side benefit of stress relief from the acupuncture. Who would have thought that putting a metal needle into the skin would be a relaxing experience?! It is stress relief without any wear and tear on the joints and keeps your system balanced for a few days after the treatment. One of the most gratifying aspects of my daily work includes watching patients come in with the weight of the world on their shoulders and walking out of the office completely de-stressed. If you would like to experience this relaxing therapy first hand, please call us today to schedule with one of our experts at 407-644-2990!
